Keith has been busy and up to his same old tricks. You’d think that a guy like Keith who promotes himself as an Oak Island researcher and treasure hunter would at minimum show a knowledge and ability to properly identify key locations on the island.

Here is a typical posting of his which clearly misidentifies the location to Oak Island’s famous money. Keith points out the area of the Cave In pit which was enlarged through pumping and excavation since the late 1800s.

Below Keith’s bogus identification is my correction, just as I have always been bringing you the corrections to his errors and misinformation.

as for Keith's poor research and obviously unfamiliarity with the treasure hunting history, Keith wrote..."In 1970 a 400 foot long dam was built around Oak Island’s Smiths Cove, an original dam was inside the 70’s dam. The original mysterious excavators of the Money pit built the original dam to prevent water seeping into the money pit while it was under construction. Evidence found in Smiths Cove determines there was underwater construction constructed there at one time or another, some un-known experts believe that this was a ancient wharf but this was a in-conclusive investigation."

Perhaps Keith should get a book like he preaches on his blog, then he would be aware of the first cofferdam efforts in the 1850s, hence this inner cofferdam to the 1970s Triton cofferdam and not from the original constructors.

Even with Keith’s newest ghost writer friend (number four), he is still about smoke and mirrors.

In their bit to distract you from the truth, Keith and his newest ghost writer still do not want you to know the following:

Keith has no Treasure Hunting License (as required in Nova Scotia),

Keith still does not have a Heritage Research Permit (yet another requirement), and

Keith still does not have landowner permission to access Birch Island, a third requirement.

Yet Keith still asks you to invest on the hopes that you don’t do your homework. I really like where he stated 'unlimited returns'.

Pirates, freemasons, Atlantis, Mayans, and the list goes on… The speculative and broad range of possible candidates is for no other purpose than to expand his base of potential investors. Don’t be one of them and do read this blog for the common lies Keith has spun around the web regarding his work.

Keith's Advise to others

The below was taken from Keith's blog. While Keith's latest post is actually a reflection on the hard lessons he learned while conducting himself as perhaps the ultimate internet troll of all time, this lesson he ought to have followed for himself. Funny he should give this advise when he has yet to follow it for himself.

Note to yourself
Read some books that have known Oak Island information remember there is a lot of controversy with Oak Island information it is best to stay as close to the known information as possible to build or discuss some plausible innovating theories of your own.

I recall Keith stating he has yet to read an Oak Island as “I do not want to bias myself” as he put it. Read Keith's inaccurate attempt to recall the island's history as an example.

While reading a book and understanding or comprehending the contents are two different things, I know of a soon to be released illustrated Oak Island booked with many single syllable words...and yes Keith, you can clap your hands and rhyme along.

Keith’s top Ten Commandments of Treasure Hunting – between the lines for running your scam.

1. Avoid joining a popular forum where people may actually know that you’re full of BS.

2. Be very careful you do not actually meet anyone who may know more than yourself and above all know that you’re running a scam. Do not under any circumstances ever talk with anyone smarter than yourself.

3. Do not believe people who know more about the subject, especially those who have actually found non-google information. While as truthful as the information is, it will only cause holes to form in your scam.

4. Always read other people’s work, then claim that work for your own so that you sound credible to the non-popular forums as per instruction #1. BS trumps the brains, remember that.

5. Always use multiple identifications on various forums so that you can link back to what you wrote and claim as valid. Remember, people don’t actually think and you can BS them with trickery links which only link back to your work anyways. This is also a popular method to trick people into thinking you’re famous.

6. If you have zero ability to articulate even the simplest of thoughts, employ a ghost writer friend so that you do not appears as a total idiot.

7. Don’t worry about having to defend your posts. When those who know more actually prove you’re running a scam and full of shit, just move on to a different forum.

8. Avoid letting anyone in on your scam, they will know it to be a scam and then you’re screwed.
9. Don’t attempt to BS your way through a forum of subject matter experts, refer to instruction #1.

10. Create multiple personalities and employ yourself a ghost writer, just watch out for those pesky forums that monitor IP addresses as they will surely know the different user names are coming from the same IP address.

Caught in yet another lie, Keith would like to have you think two things. First, he would like you to think he has been on the internet for two years, and second that he is a famous Oak Island Native Treasure hunter.

Neither of these claims are valid. From my previous posting you can read the history of Keith who arrived in Nova Scotia for the first time in October 2005. Keith first decided to join the internet community in March of 2006 by asking me to create user account for him on oakislandtreasure.co.uk, because he was too unfamiliar with doing that for himself.

Further you will read the first posting I confronted Keith with in January 2007. Once it became perfectly apparent that he was attempting to run an investment opportunity scam based upon a fabricated geological opinion of conditions. I defy anyone to produce a screen capture of a posting where Keith was confronted by me prior to January 2007, perhaps Keith can furnish the internet community a link to a forum which shows otherwise…Regardless, he has kept the lying alive and has further shown himself to be void of credible character through this constant lying at every turn.

Second, Keith is not famous, he is not a treasure hunter because he has no Treasure License, he is not on Oak Island and insists his ‘X’ marks the spot is everywhere but on Oak island, and finally, I doubt he is even a native. He’s rode the Oak Island fame train and I’m beginning to think he is merely riding the Native sympathy train too.

No Respect for Keith

Keith has recently been posting that his research is not getting the recognition which he thinks it deserves. I’m glad that Keith has come to the realization that nobody is interested with his twisting of reality, lies, deception, and ramblings.

Perhaps if he actually came up with something credible and uniquely his own, then the Oak Island enthusiast community might take notice. Until then, his free association with triangle shaped objects is nothing more than a con to get your investment dollar.

Triangles at right angles etc.

The pillar to Keith’s fantasy is for his translations somehow predicted Birch Island with the visible feature confirming the translation. You can read in the rest of this blog to see the Birch Island feature came first, then he amended his translation to fit his notion, then he amended the treasure trove application.

Regardless, the image below shows that Birch Island is not at right angles with the common vertical line of the Welling Triangle and Birch Island does not align with the base line, so much for that notion/fantasy/illusion.

Keith was recently presented a supposed John Dee text concerning the inscribed stone. Just as with an image from the 1930s Crooks film, Keith was quick to jump all over the Dee text, claiming triangles to right angle of other triangles….

As it turns out, the supposed Dee text was actually a script from Keith’s own native Cree language of which Keith did not recognize and has used to promote his very own unique ‘native’ attachment to the inscribed stone…so much for Keith’s translation and interpretive skills.

Illusion and Dishonesty

Here is another fine example of the illusion and dishonesty displayed by Keith. Below is an extract on Keith’s very own blog of which he says is an official transcript of the Treasure Trove Application.

Notice where Keith signed the 5 May 06 application, and then on 29 May 06 below his signature, he amended the application to include Birch Island, then resigned.

Keith leaves out the KEY statement "..amended May29/06" as part of the illusion on his version of the transcript. This proves Keith did not know Birch Island even existed on 5 May 06. This clearly shows he was in search of a better target of opportunity, even after his initial TTL application, as his Skull Island (Big Island) was not too convincing for the general public. Basically, he needed something and quick!

So why would Keith have you think he made application for Birch Island on 5 May 06? Because he says he knew of Birch Island all along and it was top secret, and was only misleading people prior to that!

FYI, Keith is not in possession of his very own TTL application, otherwise he would post it for people to see. Further, this is typical text manipulation by Keith, as previously shown with angie Zinck article.

Time to debunk Keith's theory

I have already proven without a doubt that Keith’s is running noting but an investment scam though his ‘Business Opportunity’. Please read my entry for 15 March 2007 for further information.

Now that his investment scam is debunked, it is time to debunk his theory. I have never countered Keith’s theory, and I thought it better to wait until Keith admitted to lying about Birch Island. Certainly you might be confused over Keith's theory, so here it is.

Keith thinks the Money Pit’s ‘Inscribed Stone’ allegedly found in 1805 and to have displayed unknown symbols, and in-conjunction with a series of small stones which formed a triangle found on the south shore; somehow contains references which point to (insert location of the month here). These two items are the foundation to his theory.

Interestingly, Keith is making a documentary so he may need some facts.

Fact, Keith says he challenges a translation of the symbols by a Professor James Leitchi of Dalhousie University and dating to the 1860s. The problem is, the professor translated a 37 character code, while Keith translated the 40 character code by Edward Snow (from his book True Tales of Buried Treasure), which is the popular “Forty feet below ten million pounds are buried”. I bet Keith does not even know what the 37 character code of Leitchi said. This is a typical mistake made by those who have not done their research and only shows that Keith is an idiot. This point is actually laughable to anyone who knows of Oak Island.

Think about this...here is Keith boasting of this code which is known to have been modified by a fictional writer in 1952...really where will it end?

Fact, testimony from by Harry W Marshall, said that he was familiar with the stone, as it was on display in his father’s store of Creighton and Marshall. Harry said that in the late 1880s, the stone had no visible symbols that were either painted or scratched into the surface except for the initials JM.

Was the stone for real? Popular opinion going back to the 1860s is for the symbols on the stone to have been faked for the purpose of soliciting investment in another treasure hunt. Yes, there were sceptics of this stone going right back to when it made its first public appearance. It seems that over 150 years later, these ‘symbols’ on the stone are being used for this very same purpose. Again, this shows Keith is nothing more than an idiot.

Fact, as interesting as the triangle of stones might be, they are nothing more than of contemporary times, post 1795 and perhaps from 1897. Fortunately some of those early (1860s) Oak island investors were VERY wealthy men as Halifax had many. One of those investors had the wisdom (and the money) to hire an early photographer during the 1860s and onwards. There are many old photos on glass plate negatives which were taken of the South Shore. These photos show a shoreline and ground elevation much differently than exists today (post 1897). During this period, the mine tailings from the MP and numerous other pits were deposited in the exact location of where the triangle of stones was located. Specifically, photographic evidence exists which shows the operations at Pit 14 with a dump system of elevated rails directly over the triangle’s location. There was so much mine tailing deposited, that it elevated the entire area by approximately 3 ft and to such a degree the area has been permanently altered. Welling found this triangle of stones on the surface and only covered by grass, certainly not buried by the few feet of dirt which were deposited over it. Can this triangle of stones be from the original construction? I think not. This is just another sloppy bit of research by Keith, for the purpose of his scam, and only shows that he is an idiot.

Well folks there you have it. As a note to Keith’s movie guy, I tried to warn you about Keith only fishing for a sucker and he caught you.

Keith, when can we expect a custom 37 character code translation which points to Birch Island?

This post is the definitive guide to debunk the claims made by Keith regarding his Birch Island Illusion.

Essentially Keith has narrowed himself into a corner by stating he knew of Birch Island since the beginning of his research and that everything else was intentionally misleading.

This statement is the fundamental essence to his defence of Birch Island of which I shall prove is nothing more than a lie. I shall prove through dates of his TTL application that Keith was unaware of Birch Island until after 5 May 06; therefore his letters of support which are of previous dates, cannot even apply to Birch Island (but I encourage you to contact the authors of said letters of support). Remember this, Keith claims to have known of Birch Island prior to meeting me for the first time in Dec 2005.

Just to note, see on the 21A09B where it still says PENDING. This confirms Keith has no landowner permission or government permits as he does not like telling you.

Detailed Scans

Key to understanding the map are monthly updates which are drawn in heavy dark lines. Thus these dark lines on the maps were last updated in Feb 07. The maps show large squares (Tracts) that are sequentially numbered from lower right to upper left. Each main square is further sub-divided into a smaller alpha grid and represent the letters under the Claim column on his application. I have used grid 25 to show for illustration purpose how this works.

Based upon Keith’s TTL application, I have added a green line to show the boundary extent to Keith application as it existed on 5 May 06, and a red line to show the amendment made on 29 May 06. Note Claim MN for Tract 12 of 21A9A is the same as Claim JQ Tract 1 of 21A9B, the only difference is that 21A9A map has the word “Birch Island”, while 21A9B map shows the physical island itself.

Clearly you see his top secret Birch Island is not part of any such claim as he made on 5 May 06.

Further you will notice the claims in grids 27, 45,46, and 47 are consistent with what I have stated, Keith was only interested in Big Island, the Gold River and Middle river Basin, as he thought underwater doors to exist at these locations.

Tank’s original Keith Ranville post dated 7 Oct 05 also confirms Keith’s TTL Application as to what he thought,

Also Keith’s own interpretation of the Heddon fragment confirms the 5 May TTL application in that he was interested in river areas.

Further, Keith’s email to me regarding his Skull Island (or Big Island in the real world) is the third such confirmation of Keith’s beliefs as confirmed by his TTL application.

Essentially, Keith felt his Skull Island had enough mystery for the main stream folks. After 5 May 06, Keith was starting to be asked some very serious questions, but could only offer that he sees these skulls because of his native heritage. After 5 May 06, Keith realized Skull Island might not be the best target to exploit, so he expanded his search and found Birch Island which appears more suited for his plan. On 29 May 06, he amended his TTL to include Birch Island and included the interconnecting water zones.

As you can read in Keith’s 5 May 06 application, he was interested in conducting an ocean search, noting more, nothing less, certainly never on land or island.

Finally, even after 29 May 06 and having now included Birch Island, Keith admits to me via email dated 31 May 06, that he needs to find out who the owner is so he can access the island. Obviously Keith never visited Birch Island or conducted any testing prior to his application. This seems desperate and is more typical of grabbing at straws and hoping for the best!

In summary, I have proven through Keith’s own hand written TTL application that he was unaware of Birch Island as he claimed, the letters of support which pre-date the TTL cannot possibly be for supporting of Birch Island, and that he was truly interested in other areas until he found a more sellable topographical feature on Birch Island. Without conducting any investigate, he rushed out and struck his claim.

Does Keith’s ‘Business Opportunity’ and the rest of his illusion sound legitimate to you?

BTW Keith, this cost me $2.00 for each map, and $1.00 for parking, they didn't even charge for the TTL Application...the best $5.00 I ever spent!!!

Letters of Support

I have been receiving email regarding the letters of support which Keith uses to prop up his Business Opportunity.

I find it difficult not to bias anyone attempting to confirm the letters of support, except to say, please contact the various authors. I think you will find a VERY different story to the one which Keith is attempting to link for support.

If you ask only one question, I suggest the following:

“Did at anytime Keith Ranville ever mention a location called Birch Island?”

This is a valid question which will independently prove to you, that Keith never discussed the Birch Island interpretation change #4 with the authors of said letters, thus the support which he implies for Birch Island is not valid. Clearly, the various letters of support were drafted at a minimum of five months prior to knowing that Birch Island ever existed.

If you contact the author of the Oak Island Tourism Society’s letter of support, you can also ask why no retraction was ever published? The ‘Don’t say anything and hopefully he’ll disappear’ tactic is more suited to the behaviour of an ostrich.

As you may have previously read, I have contacted Dr. Zou and provided the contact previously in the blog. I think Dr. Zou must now be sick of taking calls about Keith, but he certainly does like to laugh about it.

All in all, you must ask yourself why does Keith use these letters of support in his Business Opportunity, when they invalid?

Official Translation Change

It is official! Keith himself admits to yet another translation which is now the fifth. After Keith read this blog, he finally admits to changing his translation.

Do you see how this mysterious translation keeps changing subtle form? If you have been following his antics, Keith is a staunch defender of each translation, even though the various translations point towards different locations.

I would like to make a summary posting of the language Keith uses; however, most of the good material has been deleted from the various forums. I do thank the various administrators and moderators who have seen right through his scam for your investment dollars. Unfortunately there are still a few sites which allow his Business Proposal to remain.

I can tell you, that Keith merely attempts to cast any critic into a dark light, rather than to substantiate anything which he claims.

The second triangle

In this part of the illusion, Keith would have you actually think he searched on Oak Island for a second triangle. It would be hard for Keith to have searched on Oak Island, as he has never visited the island.

Please ask Keith to describe his search for the second triangle on Oak Island. Lol

Google may show an island, but the resolution for these aerials is just too course to even pick out a single mature tree, never mind a triangle of small stones which had a measured side of only 10ft.

Further Keith's statement once again contradicts his previous interpretations as no where has he evened mentioned an inverted triangle...this must be the first hints at yet another interpretation change...revision #5 perhaps?

Keith has clearly insisted triangles at right angles (to each other) with the second triangle being opposite a right angle, thus east or west…and has never been south!

Part II

The selection of Birch Island was not Keith's first choice for a location. It was actually choice number four!

Since I first challenged Keith on 5 Jan 07, he denied ever knowing me. Here is an extract of his emails to me. If you would like screen captures of my gmail client, I will gladly provide them.

Never was there any mention by Keith as to Birch Island when he was so excited to get his message out in public for the purpose of gauging public response.

Examining Keith’s initial interpretation, from the email photo to those interpretations made 24 May and 15 Jul, you’ll notice the interpretation changes as he changed the target location.

Your letter The Hydrolic Use of the Money Pit, dated 25 Oct 05, certainly describes Oak Island, not Birch Island.

For those who care to contact the good Dr. which Keith makes reference, the island in question is identified in the above image.

As with every other forum where Keith has been confronted, he chooses to cast critics into a dark light, rather than addressing the facts. Finally I will close with an email from Keith dated 9 Jun 06, again a verbatim quote

“can you post my attacments this week end on the forum excapt the smith stone translations. I dont know how to measure your involvment in my research I will include you in my Discoverriees”


Keith has bent under pressure and finally admitted to knowing me, but also confirmed that we met. Our meeting is like nothing Keith describes, but understandable he would be of that opinion today.

There you have it folks, he has been asking for your money in a dishonest manor, and has shown himself to have lied about knowing me. Through the above post, Keith also shows a violent fantasy thought process. What a partner he'd make!

I wonder what else Keith has not been honest or truthful about? Perhaps we'll find out in the next installment!!!

The Investigation

Certainly you are a wise investor and below is the information you will need, so that you may draw your own conclusion about the ‘Business Opportunity’. Certainly you have asked Keith very important questions regarding the investment, but may have only received newspaper ads without ever getting a straight answer.

Ask these people what date they were presented the information, what was discussed (insert a Keith or associate's claim here, such as Atlantis, Freemasons, the US Dollar Bill, etc) and what they were actually giving support towards. Ask about Birch Island and most importantly ask if they still offer the same support.

Newspaper Articles

While media merely reports either a story or by running a paid advertisement, Keith has furnished many media releases which cannot be attributed to a news outlet, or a known reporter/author. When legitimate media coverage has made it to print, Keith (or associate) has changed the wording or purely inserted additional text!

One such legitimate article is by Angie Zinck who can confirm Keith Ranville (or associate) has manipulated/edited the original text. In Nova Scotia, one needs government licences and permits to conduct archaeological, mining, or treasure hunting work.

Scientific Data

Keith has never once offered any scientific data to back his claims regarding the topographical feature of Birch Island. It is mere speculation which he portraits as fact for the purpose of getting your money. Keith has not conducted any archaeological or geological work on Birch Island, he did not possess any such data as of July 06, and his Dr. Zou admits he never offered an opinion of Birch Island.


In my next segment, I will show you how Birch Island was derived after many previous locations…complete with interpretation changes to suit his new locations. Following that another indepth look at his confusing solicitation about a treasure hunt on Oak Island!
